3 Tips For Your First Coolsculpting Session

by Colleen Sanders

Coolsculpting is an innovative way to help your body look more toned and sleek very quickly. It is a non-invasive procedure that uses a cooling device to target and freeze stubborn fat deposits in those areas of your body that simply won't respond to diet and exercise the way you want them to. The fat deposits are frozen at very cold temperatures, which in turn causes them to dissolve. The result is a more toned body. Here are three tips for preparing for your first coolsculpting session.

Prepare to be Comfortable After Your Coolscupting Procedure

While this is a non-invasive procedure, many people feel a bit sore or swollen for a day or so afterward. For this reason, you may want to schedule your coolsculpting session for a weekend or a day when you can easily miss work. Bring comfortable clothes to change into after your appointment. Many people find they feel more comfortable wearing compression garments underneath baggy clothes like sweats.

Your coolsculpting practitioner may even recommend compression garments to keep your skin feeling supported while you recover and the fat deposits begin to dissolve. Depending on the area of your body you are having treated, you may experience minor pain afterward (like that of a bruise) and want to have OTC pain medication on hand just in case.

Know What to Expect During Your Session

During your session, you will be given comfortable clothes to wear that expose the area being treated, such as shorts and a sports bra. You will get to lay down on a comfortable bed with a blanket during the treatment, and many coolsculpting med spas offer a relaxing, spa-like environment. You may be offered a tablet to watch your favorite show or be given complimentary healthy snacks.

The actual coolsculpting procedure feels very cold momentarily, but your skin will soon be numb so you won't be affected. You may also feel a sensation of pressure.

Prepare to Massage the Area

The doctor or practitioner will show you how to massage the area in the days after your coolsculpting procedure. It's important to do this as directed and as often as suggested, because this helps to further break up and dissolve the fatty deposits so they can then be flushed from your body.

Following these tips and working with a reputable coolsculpting practitioner will ensure you have a great experience and get the results you want.
